having the most fun

What would we do without good friends in our lives?

fall fun with some little cuties

Last week, I had two of my grandkids over for a little tea party with my fall tea set.  We had hot cocoa and cookies and enjoyed the beautiful weather on my patio.  A few days later, I got to go see them all dressed up for Halloween.  I am one lucky G.G. to have so many sweet grandkids!  Love them all!

summer dinner parties

One of my very favorite things about summer is the occasion it gives for hosting long, leisurely dinner parties.  With that relaxed summer mood, evening dinners always seem that much more enjoyable.  Throw in being at the beach and I am in heaven.  I was lucky to receive a little taste of this a couple weeks ago in California when my good friend Laurie hosted the loveliest dinner party for her son who just got married.  Every little touch was just right and we all sat around talking and drinking until late in the evening.  I am looking forward to many lovely nights of gathering family and friends around my table to eating, drinking and just being together.

What is one of your favorite things about summer?

family vacation 101

I find myself saying every year after our family vacation at the beach, “This was our best family vacation so far!”  I think it might have to do with the fact that each year we learn a little something from the last.  We stopped caring about having a bed for everyone and realized kids are just as happy to all pile in on the floor.  We’ve split up dinner nights, so each family is only responsible for dinner one night and get to just enjoy a delicious meal every other night.  We plan family baseball games, card games and board games.  We make family t-shirts and, this year (most of us) attempted to do cross-fit together.  And, of course, the ocean and beach are right there to provide their own entertainment.  I love all being together at the beach for that one whole week.  No one scooting off to jobs or school or camps.  Everyone all together for this one time a year is so important to me.  We celebrate birthdays (and even baptisms).  The kids plan lemonade stands and spend hours out at the lifeguard tower.  There are sleepovers and late nights and early morning walks for coffee and donuts.  And long beautiful days and evenings at the beach.  I thought it would be fun to share a couple of the things we added this year for anyone trying to plan a big family vacation or reunion.  Also, I like looking back at the memories…  So, over the next few days I thought I’d look back to this summer’s family t-shirts, attempts at a family photo, our first annual talent show and our family olympics.  And, perhaps, I could get even more suggestions for what has worked for all of you in planning large family vacations.  And then next year I can proudly say, “No, this year was even better than the last!”

our sweet retreat

We stayed with the most amazing couple on their gorgeous property while we were in Texas for Round Top.  It was like a dream…

We absolutely fell in love with this little painting cottage they had built on their property…

family parties

Last week the whole family headed over to my son Patrick and his wife Mary’s house for a belated birthday dinner for their daughter Charlotte. It is always so fun to have all the kids together.  I especially love going to each family member’s house during Christmas to check out their holiday decorations!
Happy birthday, sweet Charlotte!
I just love seeing holiday decorations in other people’s homes.  I had totally forgotten about this old christmas cake stand from the Willows several years back…

And I still love the snow globes we made last year.  Here’s some details if you want to make your own!
Finally, I can’t help but show off Mary’s adorable advent calendar she made for her kids…

Hope this week has started off as a good one for you!
