family t-shirts

One of my favorite summer traditions that we started a few years back was making t-shirts for all the grandkids with their number on the back.  They look so cute all wearing the same shirt and I just absolutely love this idea.  I highly recommend doing this if you are planning a family vacation or reunion.  We use a local lady from Phoenix, Nancy, who runs her own company, Novel Threads (novelthreads.com).  I am convinced she can do anything, from silk screening to embroidery.  I highly, highly, highly recommend her.  Email her at novelthreads@q.com and get going on your family t-shirts!

and, of course, numbers on the back…

lovely homes {a house tour}

We have another wonderful Phoenix home to share with you as part of our ‘lovely homes’ house tours.  This time Amy Adkins let us invade her beautiful home.  This 1952 mid-century gem is beyond charming.  I love that old Phoenix feeling that still exists in these homes.  Hope you enjoy peeking around as much as we did…  Have fun!

Thanks so much, Amy!

number 17

Well, grandchild number 17 has finally arrived!
We are so excited to welcome Dorothy Cecilia to the family!
Little Dot is just beautiful and we couldn’t all love her more!
Congratulations, Pete and Emily!
Now we are on baby watch again, waiting for number 18!
What good little friends these cousins will be!

tuesday’s favorite

We are starting a new little weekly post, in which we feature a favorite item from the store each Tuesday.  Perhaps something new to the shop, or maybe an old favorite that we don’t want you to forget about.  Then, if you come in to the store and mention that you saw that treasure on our blog, you will receive 20% off the item of the week.  For our first two Tuesday features, we are offering the savings through Mother’s Day, so keep those moms you love in mind!
Our first Tuesday favorite is…
The new Grey Lastra Collection from Vietri.  Plates, bowls, chargers and serving ware are all available!
The style of this collection is modern, in both color and lines, but with beautiful classic craftsmanship.
And, of course, it is made in Italy!

Don’t you just love it!

tuesday’s favorite

Just in time for Mother’s Day!
This week we are featuring…
 ALL Bath, Body and Candles!
We have so many treasures to be found and if you mention this blog post, you get 20% off any bath, body or candles from now until Mother’s Day!  (Don’t forget our Vietri special lasts thru Mother’s Day, as well!)  Come in and find that perfect gift you have been looking for!

hurray for knitting!

Well, our “Colors of the Garden” knitting event was a huge success!  Everyone seemed to have a wonderful time, learned a lot and enjoyed delicious food and good company!  Thank you so much to Lynne Bonnell for coming and sharing your expertise with us!  And thank you to everyone who came!  We really hope you enjoyed yourselves and have been practicing your skills since!  Keep your eye out for more upcoming classes and events in our garden shop…

decorating prom

We were recently hired for the very fun job of decorating for a local high school’s prom.  The theme was Casino Night with black, white and red as the colors of choice.  I think the girls did such a great job!  Don’t you love the big dice on the tables and the jars of candy?  And, of course, we had to bring a photo booth along!  The kids all seemed to have such a great time!  So glad we could help make it special for them!

chestnut lane pop-up!

We couldn’t be more excited!
Pop-Up Event to Celebrate the Return of
Chestnut Lane
Thursday, June 14
from 11am – 1pm
Right here at the Willows!
Can’t wait to see you there!

Check out the pop-up menu here!
This is an event you won’t want to miss!

What do you do when your favorite restaurant closes?  You do what sisters Marissa Hochman and Kirsten Steele did…you reopen it!
Arcadia residents Hochman and Steele  are relaunching foodie favorite Chestnut Lane with a Pop-Up Event at the Willows on June 14th.   Thereafter, Chestnut Lane will be available for catering until the duo secures a new location.  “We just wanted to bring back the homestyle goodness and charm that we loved so much at Chestnut Lane,” commented Hochman , “and by the response that we have received so far, we weren’t the only ones who missed Chestnut!”

Hochman and Steele share a vision of relocating Chestnut Lane near the previous location at 44th Street and Camelback. “ We really want to find a space that is a bit larger and that will have room for a wine bar and a dedicated area for children,” said Steele.  Both women are busy young Moms, but they have always had a dream of opening a restaurant together.  Hochman came up with the idea of approaching Polly Levine, the original owner of Chestnut Lane, to try and persuade her to reopen. But with time, the idea was fostered that Hochman and Steele would reopen Chestnut with Levine’s guidance.  “Working with Polly has been nothing short of pleasure.  She is hands on and committed to teaching us how to continue forward with all the Chestnut Lane favorites,” noted Hochman.  “In fact, just yesterday, we spent the afternoon in her kitchen mastering the chocolate chip cookie recipe and we all had so much fun.”
More pop-ups are coming, but in the meantime, remember Chestnut Lane for all your party needs or to fill your refrigerator this summer when it is too hot to cook!  Stop by the Willows on June 14th and get a taste of the original Chestnut Lane goodness.  For more information visit www.chestnutlanefinefoods.com

feeling adventurous

“If you’re not in New York, you’re camping out.” – Thomas Dewey
While I do love my big city experiences (send me to New York or Paris any day!), I saw these on Tomboy Style and absolutely fell in love.  Wouldn’t this be the dreamiest vacation?  I would love to plan a girls weekend and rent these tents somewhere.  Would you ever do something like this?
“Adventure is worthwhile in itself.” – Amelia Earhart
